Electric vehicles are popular in the Chicagoland area, and they're growing in popularity all over the world. One downside to EVs is that there aren't many luxury options in the market, but Jaguar may be adding a little variety to the industry very soon. Earlier this month, Ian Callum, design director at Jaguar told Autocar that "…electrification will kickstart the biggest change in automotive design in history."

The fact that Jaguar sees the potential for electric cars is big news in the auto industry! Callum also told the magazine that the opportunities offered by an electric powertrain are huge, especially in terms of seating capacity. There is definitely a lot of advancement opportunities when it comes to the design aspect of EVs. Limited interior space is one of the biggest complaints by consumers who have purchased electric cars in the past.

Callum mentioned that by removing some of the mechanical hardware and putting batteries in the floor, an automaker could open a lot of new doors in terms of electric vehicle design. This begs the question; would Jaguar make the vehicle smaller and keep the same seating capacity as a standard EV or create an electric vehicle that is roughly the same size as existing EVs and add more passenger and cargo space?

Of course, nothing has been officially released, but the fact that Callum spoke so in-depth on this topic has experts in the auto industry chomping at the bit. According to Callum, "an electric Jaguar would be suitable for the brand." Here at Jaguar Chicago, we could not agree more! We would love to offer our customers in and around Chicago a luxury electric car option.
